Riot at Corcoran State Prison

CBS 47Inmates at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran are on a modified program, after a riot involving 63 inmates.

The riot erupted around 7:00 p.m. Friday. Correctional officers had to use tear gas to subdue the inmates.

Nine of the 63 inmates were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Their injuries are described as non life-threatening.

No correctional officers were hurt.

Public information officer Lupe Cartagena said visiting is currently not allowed at the facility, and inmates are not allowed to leave their dorms until further notice.

    1. That's the problem with the average citizen. They have all kinds of pre conceived notions about what we correctional officers face without a full understanding of the environment we are in.
